Times Staff – A 26-year-old woman who was struck while cycling earlier this week has died after being taken off of life-support on Friday.
Emily Sharon Shields was riding along Adelaide Avenue East, near Blackthorn Street, when she was struck by a sedan after the driver lost control. The sedan came to rest against a tree after striking Ms. Shields, with the driver sustaining minor injuries.
Tributes to Ms. Shields have been pouring in via social media all day, as friends and family come together to grieve the loss.
Witnesses on social media claim that the driver was racing with another vehicle when the accident occurred, though those claims have yet to be confirmed. Police are searching for a second vehicle that may have been involved, described as a small blue sedan with dark tinted windows. That vehicle, which was traveling eastbound at the time of the crash, was last seen approaching Townline Road.
Police are asking for anyone who may have information to contact Detective Constable Rayne at 1-888-579-1520, extension 5256.
